Living in Tornado Alley!

As many of you may or may not know, Andy and I are in the heart of what some like to call Tornado Alley. To be honest, I wasn't really aware of this fact until shortly after we moved here..and even then the warnings weren't severe. That is, until last night. Yesterday's weather was quite enjoyable actually, in the 60s with little wind. We had our screen door open for most of the day. Later last night the wind and rain started to move in. It would come and go but I didn't realize it was going to be as big as it was. A string of storms were moving right in our direction...along the interstate 44 which runs right in front of post. I have never experienced this type of storm. The thunder and lightning were beyond imagination. It almost sounded like a bomb in our front yard, and it shook our house just as much as a bomb might have. I was pretty restless, and even cleaned out our front closet in case we needed to take cover. Andy was much more calm that I was, and he even slept like a rock. I on the other hand was up all night twisting and turning, finally I got out of bed about 4 am to turn on the news...and yes, tornado warnings were still in affect. Finally I fell asleep on the couch around 6 am and got another couple hours of sleep. But from now on, I am keeping our closet clear and a flash light close by! This just reminds me even more of why we need to be prepared, so this year one of my goals is to work on our food storage and emergency preparedness kits. I might even seek the help of mom to teach me how to can some foods.

Anyway, just to give you an idea of what it was like....here is a memento for you:
